Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a Lebanese-born, partially experimenting writer and analyst, is a thinker dedicated to his life in terms of fortune, uncertainty, probability and knowledge. In his book or The Black Swan, he discusses the 9/11 and looks at the following assumption:
If, on the 10th of September, a brave, creative and effective legislator had emerged, the pilot lodge had to be locked in all conditions and made bulletproof. What would have happened if the September 11 disaster had not happened?
Probably the September 11 event will not happen, it will not be known that the person who took this decision will not be known, and that person will not be declared a hero, and even the decision will be criticized by both airlines and the aircraft personnel for making the cost and the work difficult. Even he himself wouldn't know what disaster he had on his deathbed.
However, after the September 11 disaster, some managers who tried to reduce the effects of the disaster were declared heroes. Those who tried to show him act heroically in the media were rewarded.
Everyone knows that the measure is more necessary than treatment, but measures are not rewarded. In this respect, it can be said that our Earth is a bit superficial and unjust.
The same is true in business. Although a highly experienced and intelligent manager has been working in a very risky market, he may have achieved significant success. He manages his team perfectly and makes the branch that has not been able to make a profit for 10 years. Admittedly, this will be rewarded, will be thanked. However, the opposite happens, no one knows how great His labor is. Ür If the profit target has been held, it has been held there because the potential is high “.As you can see in the example, the manager has taken serious time to get to know his hinterland and the ways in which the companies work there. He then directed his team in accordance with certain principles specific to the region and managed them very well, taking the necessary measures and preventing the possible problems before they emerged.
I mean, he made a fatal mistake. Prevention has taken the measures to prevent the catastrophe by investing. This is unfortunately not a rewarding behavior in our world.
However, it is a behavior that is expected from prudent enterprises by taking successful measures and taking necessary preventive measures without problems. This should be rewarded. However, in the business world, there is not a structure that places this issue at the forefront. In general, those who extinguish the fire and solve the big problem are rewarded because they are easily seen successes and applauded. Just like after September 11th.Large fires, problems in the emergence of existing problems and problems are identified and the necessary measures are not taken from the beginning.
Institutions on this issue, one of the most important problems in business life should stop. Employees who make significant contributions to quality and the organization are lost in this way, problems and problems are constantly growing like a fire which is tried to be extinguished.
Measuring, appreciating, and rewarding real success is vital to top management. The long-term success of an organization is largely dependent on other factors.
